Hello there,
We have a slight problem which maybe somebody can help us solve.
We recently set up a new machine and made it the 2003 DC as our old 2000 DC was dying of death.
We migrated all of the AD settings, promoted roles etc etc etc, and as far as we are concerned the new DC functions properly and we have no issues.
Until......
We finally retired our old 2000 DC and switched it off. We saw no immediate problems. But overnight Exchange had shut itself down! So in the morning i restarted the mail server hoping it had just thrown a wobbly. When the mail server rebooted it logged on but Exchange still was shut down and the exchange auto services refused to start. Checked the event viewer and it was saying it had no DC to authenticate with (so it was logging on with cached creds).
Turned the old retired DC back on, restarted the mail server and everything worked again.
So our mail server at this moment in time needs our "retired" DC to be on for exchange to work.
Have we missed a setting or is there something we can do to hook it up to the new DC so to speak so our old DC can finally go to techie heaven!
Cheers
