Discovery Methods - Active Directory System Discovery

    Hi

Does this discovery method only look in the workstations folder of active directory?  I have a number of machines in the Computers folder but none of them appear.

    Thanks

You have to add active directory container. Please refer following snap shot

Great post! you can also look to the root of the domain and that will cover everything. Why do people just do specific OU's. I never understood that. Sorry...

I have seen that client does not want to manage group of computers or OU through SMS which are very critical. In my previous organization they used to manage patching of some banking servers through WSUS. So we have to align  with specific OU.

I have seen some clients want to manage only servers or only w/s through SMS and in that case I think it is required to align  with specific OU.

    Thanks and Regards

Re: Discovery Methods - Active Directory System Discovery

    Cheers guys

The problem i have is that i have LDAP://DC=domainname,DC=COM under this domain i have a sub domain called ab.domainname.com.

All the user accounts are found but none of the computers?

I dont think its permissions as the user accounts appear in the collections.  The ConfigMgr log does not show any contact with computers on the ab.domainname.com.

     Thanks

So your rule is for the entire domain but computer accounts aren't being discovered?  What do you have set for your boundaries?  In your rule do you have recursion and groups turned on?

Re: Discovery Methods - Active Directory System Discovery

Under domainname.com all clients are found under ab.domainname.com none are found.

The subdomain ab.domainname.com is also a boundarie.

The strange thing is that all users and groups under ab.domainname.com are found just not the computers.

     Thanks

Re: Discovery Methods - Active Directory System Discovery

    Cheers Abhishek Joshi

Using the log i could see the system going through dc=ab,dc=domainname,dc=com

    i had them dc=ab.domainname,dc=domainname,dc=com

Just checked the logs and all the ab.domainname machines appear in it saying DDR was written for system "testmachine"

I asume the client will be installed soon and the machines will appear in the management console.

    Thanks for everyones help.

    Aldo
