Management Point Recovery After Registry Restore

Win2k Secondary site Management Point setup fails after raid trouble and  registry system hive restore. I'm setting this site back up with no backup up file, I have unistalled sms and IIS rebooted and retried with setup and I'm getting the following in my MPSetup.log:

    -2008 09:52:45> MP Setup Started....
    <06-25-2008 09:52:45> Parameters: C:\APPS\SMS\bin\i386\MPsetup.exe /install /siteserver:XXX-SERVER
    <06-25-2008 09:52:45> Installing the MP
<06-25-2008 09:52:45> Passed OS version check.
<06-25-2008 09:52:45> IIS Service is installed.
<06-25-2008 09:52:45> No versions of MP are installed.  Installing new MP.

    <06-25-2008 09:53:04> [9:53:04] @@ERR:25001
<06-25-2008 09:53:04> Setup failed due to unexpected circumstances
    The error code is 80004005
    <06-25-2008 09:53:05> MP.MSI exited with return code: 1603
    <06-25-2008 09:53:05> Backing up MPMSI.log to C:\APPS\SMS\logs\MPMSI.log.LastError
<06-25-2008 09:53:05> Fatal MSI Error - MP.MSI could not be installed.

I've checked my mpmsi.log and there's nothing useful in it.

Everything I've found points to a security issue, but I've compared this server to others and everything looks good. Anyone know what security needs checked? any help correcting this headache would be greatly appreciated.

Sometimes running the mp.msi works just the same. You might try that....???

Re: Management Point Recovery After Registry Restore

I just Tried running the MP.MSI on the target server and got the following error Dialog Box during setup:

Setup Failed due to unexpected ciercumstances

    The error code is 80004005

    and:

Setup encountered an error and will not continue,

Same error as is being reported in the MPSETUP.LOG

This morning I uninstalled IIS, Deleted all SMS registry entries, reinstalled IIS rebooted, and ran setup (from CD files on Targed Server) on the server again with the same results, I'm not ever sure what to try next at this point.

Hmm..... you may need to consider rebuilding the server. If the RAID caused an issue... it my not be recoverable.... In the long run, a rebuild would be almost faster than doing any more troubleshooting??

At this point SMS is the only thing not working after recovering from the raid trouble, so at least for now I don't think rebuilding the server is going to be possibe, or faster because this server has a lot of other roles. What I'm finding on other sites  still looks like some kind of security issue, the error above is a little vague I wish it were just a bit more specific and there's not alot out there on it.
