    Getting SMS_WSUS_CONFIGURATION_MANAGER 6600 errors. Help!

    Hey everybody. My environment consists of 1 primary and 2 secondary sites. My SCCM server and WSUS 3.0sp1 are on the same box. In SCCM, the SUP component is configured as follows;

    • General - Active Software Update Point on Site Server
    • Sync Settings - Synchronize from Microsoft Update

    Before installing SCCM on Server, I installed WSUS and exited the post installation configuration wizard as mentioned in docs. Looks like I'm getting these "WSUS Server not configured" errors every hour. I peeked in the WSUS console. The "Update Source and Proxy Server" is configured as follows;

    • Update Source - Synchronize from another WSUS server (my primary server)
    • The check box for "This server is a replica of the upstream server" is checked. I've unchecked this box to no avail.

Any thoughts or suggestions? Port configuration (80) is consistent.

    Thanks in advance,

    Jerry

I have seen a lot of sync problems..... WSUS is not suggested to be on the same server.... however, it is supported to be on the same box. Since you have it on the same box, You DID install WSUS to a new website on port 8530 and 8531 right? Primary servers are NEVER replica servers.... only secondary servers.

I think (based on your post), that you installed WSUS on the default website... right?

Brian, thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, I installed to the default website & ports. Even so, I would think that shouldn't be the cause of the sync errors would it? Is it much of a process at this point to change to a custom website and port 8530?

By the way, when I uncheck the "replica" box, it soon gets rechecked, by SCCM, I assume.

While I might agree that being on port 80 is possibly not the reason you can't sync, I still know that you should not be running both your MP and WSUS on port 80. It causes the clients to get confused at times and you will have problems.

Uninstall WSUS. Reinstall to the new website it offers. You don't need SSL!!!! at the end of the install, cancel out of the wizard. Add the SUP role back to the server and enable the client agent and the thing of a jig above client push... Sorry... don't remember the name off the top of my head.

Watch the sync log and it will start by itself within 10 minutes or less.

I don't know why your replica box is being rechecked unless you have that setup manually in WSUS and it's pulling that into SCCM. I assume this is on your central primary. If you install onto your secondary servers, during the SUP role install, it should find the SUP / WSUS server above in the hierarchy. Then you can make them a replica...

Re: Getting SMS_WSUS_CONFIGURATION_MANAGER 6600 errors. Help!

I've started threads all over the place searching for an answer. I have set the WSUS up with the separate ports 8530 / 8531.  But I still get an error:

Found WSUS Admin dll of assembly version Microsoft.UpdateServices.Administration, Version=3.0.6000.273,

Found WSUS Admin dll of assembly version Microsoft.UpdateServices.Administration, Version=3.1.6001.1,

Found WSUS Admin dll of assembly version Microsoft.UpdateServices.Administration, Version=2.0.0.0,

The installed WSUS build has the valid and supported WSUS Administration DLL assembly version (3.1.6001.1)~

Failed to create instance of Microsoft.SystemsManagementServer.WSUS.WSUSServer

Remote configuration failed on WSUS Server

I don't have SSL but do have a proxy.

    Any help is much appreciated.

Did you make the new website to not use the default? Do you have the WSUS console on the server even if WSUS is on another server?

Re: Getting SMS_WSUS_CONFIGURATION_MANAGER 6600 errors. Help!

    Dear Brian,

WSUS is actually on the same server

    My set up is:

    Live Pilot Server

    SQL Server 2005
    SCCM V4 on ports 80 / 443
    WSUS V3 + SP1 on ports 8530 / 8531

    Proxy server

    Port 8080
    requires authentication

    Extra Info

I can configure the proxy server from the WSUS console and synchronize with no problems.

    Thank you for the assistance

When you do a synchronization directly from WSUS does it error out on you?  Also do you have any other errors in your wsynchmgr.log file?

I hate to push you in this direction, but all the answers are in the videos listed below. It works 100%

How to Configure the Software Update Point (SUP) Role for Software Distribution use this when WSUS is on another server.

Adding the SUP Role to a Primary Server without SSL in Mixed Mode Use this when WSUS is on SCCM server.

all the videos can be seen for Software Updates on this page http://blogcastrepository.com/level5/sccm/default.aspx?PageIndex=2
