SMS 2003 Does not Push Client to the Computers
I configured SMS following the video blog from Brian.
Everything seems to work fine, except being able to push SMS installs out to remote machines (i installed one locally on the SMS server and it works fine).
I get no errors when I try to push the install, however, ccm.log does not show that any install activity takes place -- all I get in the log file: Install on DC: True

I will appreciate any help.
Thanks a lot!

Re: SMS 2003 Does not Push Client to the Computers
Sounds like something is misconfigured. Do you have any checkboxes checked in Client Push? Can you show us a screen shot of the client push properties? Are we talking about a single primary site or is this a child prmary or secondary site?
You installed the SMS client on the SMS server, but can't to other resources?

Re: SMS 2003 Does not Push Client to the Computers
There is a single primary site. When I installed SMS client on the SMS server manually following your (Brian's) instructions -- everything works fine on it.
Can't got to other resources.
All of the checkboxes are checked in the Client Push, except "enable Client Push to site systems"
Advanced Client Settings: SMSSITECODE=AUTO
For test purposes I am using admin account on the domain for all connections.
I tried to attached the image to the forum, but it does not let me.
Let me know if you have any ideas how I can troubleshoot this.
As well, another question -- 2 machines on in the All Systems collection in SMS show up as Assigned = Yes, all the rest, show up as = No.
WHat does this mean?
Thanks,
D.

Re: SMS 2003 Does not Push Client to the Computers
I'm not sure why you are having issue. I still think that something is not configured correctly. It's also not good that your machines are not being assigned. Do you have heartbeat discovery enabled? As for client push, try and uncheck the box to only install on assigned systems. You will have to change the option to use the default site settings to use Advanced Client, then you can uncheck the box on the next page of the wizard. I think that may be your issue now that you tell us that you don't have any client's assigned. Double check your boundaries too...

Re: SMS 2003 Does not Push Client to the Computers
Hi. Heartbeat discovery is enabled.
I have no boundaries setup (our network is small, so we don't have subnet setup at all) -- i talked to my sysadmin, he said that because subnet is not setup in AD, we don't have to have site boundaries setup. Are boundaries required -- or will it work, if there is no subnet setup in AD?
Also, when I look at the event summaries, I see the following regarding the installation
User "CLICKSTREAMTECH\administrator" requested that the CCR be generated for resource "34". But no CCR is generated. Possible cause: this is not a system resource, this is not assigned to current site if you choose to install client on system resource that are assigned to current site, or the system resource does not have Microsoft Windows NT operating system or above installed.
How can I troubleshoot this?
Thanks a lot, D.

Re: SMS 2003 Does not Push Client to the Computers
Answer
Yes, yes, yes.... you have to have boundaries setup in SMS. If you don't have AD Sites and Services configured, simply add in all the subnets into the boundary list of SMS..If you don't know what they are, double click on a resource in a collection and it will tell you the subnet the resource is in. Keep adding them until all systems are assigned.
You have to do that.. do that, wait overnight, update the All Systems colection and refresh and you should see systems assigned. The goal in the setup process is to get all resources showing as assigned. Once you do that and try to push a client again, let us know if you still have problems.

Re: SMS 2003 Does not Push Client to the Computers
I have been able to push the client installation -- all servers are now assigned.
However, when the client installs on a resource -- I have only 2 options available in 'actions' in the Systems Management on that local machine.
As well, the machine does not show up as a client machine in the collections.
Any ideas why?
Also -- what are general advantages of installing SMS clients on the machine vs running everything on network (e.g. can I capture resource inventory, etc, without installing sms clients)

Re: SMS 2003 Does not Push Client to the Computers
Sounds like your MP is failing. Start with the MP troubleshooter and see what that shows. Also. check the status of the MP Control component in the console. Should have some errors in it.

Re: SMS 2003 Does not Push Client to the Computers
I ran post-install MP troubleshooting
I get 2 messages: 1 error and 2 warnings:
Warning: Verify the MPs Machine$ acct is a member of the SQL servers SMS_SiteSystemToSQLConnection_(Site_code) group ---- Yes
Error: Testing MPCERT HTTP request functionality --
Warning: Does the SMS accoutn have administrative rights on MP? --- Yes
Everything else is Ok.
I tried running MPGetPolicy tool -- and get no errors.
The SMS server, SQL server and MP are on the same machine.
Any ideas, how i can troubleshoot further?
Thanks,
D.

Re: SMS 2003 Does not Push Client to the Computers
MP problems suck.. it's the truth. Start by unchecking the role of MP from the SMS server, click apply and then check mark the box to enable it again. Click ok. Check the MPSetup, log file and verify it has uninstalled and then reinstalled. Run MP Troubleshooter again.. Still have errors? If so, the best way to clear a MP is to remove the MP role again. Remove IIS, reboot, delete the Inetpub folder. Add back IIS and companents and then add the MP role again.. It takes 20 minutes... better to get it out of the way to rule out problems.

One thing to check is that none of your sms accounts are not in the guest group. I had a similair problem.
