Unable to update site database from catalog

With the new patch (KB925902) out and causing a stir, I was planning on pushing it out to my clients.  I check my site server and my last catalog date is 3/28/2007.

I initiate sync and check the reports and starting on the 28th of March I've got a bunch of these: Program started, Unable to update site database from catalog.
If I drill down into the error it says:

Syncronization component failed: The synchronization component failed to update the site database for the catalog (type=Microsoft update).  See the log for details.

Not sure what log they are referring to, would appreciate any insight.

Also, I went out and downloaded the CAB file manually:

    Source=http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=40751

And looked at the digital signature and it is stamped the 27th of March.  Could it be that there are no updates available?  MS just left the WSUS uses out to dry on this patch? hahahaha.

I'm not sure about this update. I will be in the lab tomorrow and will look for it.

Re: Unable to update site database from catalog

I guess while I'm at it, is it normal behavior for it to throw this error when there is no additional updated catalog available?  It seems reasonable but if anyone else could run a sync and see if they get the same error I'd appreciate it.

I know for a fact that I have the newest catalog available as I compared the manual download to what is on my site server.  Just a little concerned about it throwing that error, can't recall having seen that before.

     thanks

I am having same problem. when I run the IMTU on synch PC it fails. I downlaoded the new WSUSCAN2.cab replaced the old one but no luck.

I am not sure what is going on.

I went to install the SP2 ITMU just this last Friday. During the install, the SMS server fails to sync with MSFT. Installing the ITMU Revision 3 did sync successful this morning. MSFT recommended that SP 2 ITMU users upgrade to R3 by March 2007. I am going to assume the SP2 link is not active. Upgrade to R2 and see if you still have the issue.

Re: Unable to update site database from catalog

    No problem..

You can't just update the ITMU.. There are other steps to follow. Tongue Tied

    1. Delete the old advertisement for the daily scan on clients and make a new one.

    2. Verify the sync has downloaded the new cab file.

    3. Update your DP's with the new files!! I might suggest you do that first....

    4. Test a group of systems to make sure everything is working.
