    ITMU Error 11456 - help

    Hello Everyone,

Anyone has an idea if you've encountered this error in ITMU Tool Sync? This is my second post on this topic.  I get Program Errors (MIF) in my ITMU Tool Sync Status. It started March until now. I have already updated my ITMU to Rev 3 but i still get this same error. I noticed that although the program started, i cannot see the latest April patch in the Software Updates. I am doing a manual  downloading of the latest cab to get the Critical Update for April but i can't be doing this forever!

The program for advertisement "V0120148" failed ("V01000AC" - "Microsoft Updates Tool Sync").  The failure description was "11456".  User context: NT   AUTHORITY\SYSTEM

Possible cause: The program generated an installation status Management Information Format (MIF) file with a status value of Failed.

Solution: For more information about the failure, refer to the documentation for the program you are distributing.

I looked into the WSUSScantool log and this is what i got:

Initialized log file - SyncXML started at 4/12/2007 3:00:03 AM
    Sync task started with command-line = /s /site SMS-VIS /code V01 /package V01000B2 /target \\SMS-VIS\PackageSrc
    User Account: NONE
User Profile: C:\Documents and Settings\Default User
Command line specified folder to update as \\SMS-VIS\PackageSrc.
Command line specified package to update on DPs as V01000B2
Command line specified site code: V01.
Command line specified site server: SMS-VIS.
    Download failed - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=74689
Sync tool failed to download "http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=74689". Error code:1
Loaded "C:\SMS_CCM\smscstat.dll"; the module handle is 0x188A0000.
CreateSMSStatusMessage() succeeded; the status message object handle is 0x017BF678.
    ReportSMSStatusMessage() succeeded.

I'd appreciate any ideas on how to solve this.

    Thanks and regards.

I might suggest that you remove the ITMU programs from the DP's. Ininstall the ITMU. Verify the packages for the ITMU are gone in SMS and the source directories. Reinstall the ITMU, sync the server and then push out the scan tool expedited again. Have the clients run from the DP rather than the cache.

Re: ITMU Error 11456 - help

Thanks for replying Brian. I was actually doing the uninstall install thing a couple of times already. That was what i did to get updates for April. I've had this since March 27, 2007. I also had the clients run from the DP and not from the cache. I am still researching for solutions on this.  I also noticed that whenever I install the ITMU and select the option to DOWNLOAD THE CAB FROM THE WEB, says it cannot access the link but if download it manually still from the same server - i can get the cab file. I am perplexed.

You and I are having the same problem. I was in the DSUW yesterday with a client and 5 out of 8 patches downloaded and were authorized. 3 of them I had to chack the box to authorize and then download. There must be a bug or something. It seems that the ITMU has been a problem topic both here and internal at my company.

The word I have is that SP3 will be released in its final version on 4/23. My intention is to run it ASAP and see if the issues you and I have are resolved. Just know that it's not just you having this issue.

Re: ITMU Error 11456 - help

I'm getting a different error, but it started on the same date - everything was running fine on March 27, but starting on March 28 all but 5 clients (that's over 3000 clients) are reporting failures on the package that syncs the update tool.  The SMS error is 11412, and the erro message in the scanwrapper log is:  "ERROR: Failed while processing the executable. Cmdline=["C:\WINDOWS\system32\VPCache\CEN0001E\SmsWusHandler.exe" /Catalog:C:\WINDOWS\system32\VPCache\CEN0001E\wsusscan.cab /OutputXml:C:\WINDOWS\system32\VPCache\CEN0001E\Results.xml], CurrentDir=[C:\WINDOWS\system32\VPCache\CEN0001E], ExitCode=[28674]"

The server is also having problems downloading wsusscan.cab I can download it manually, but the package to do it automatically is returning an error :  Synchronization component failed: the synchronization component failed to update the Site Database for the catalog (type = Microsoft Update). See the log file for details.  Error is 11456, just like nellie2 reports.

Nellie, what is your enterprise Anti-virus?  Do you know if they did any kind of update in late March?  Ours has broken SMS in the past by changing their scan settings when they applied an update, but I need absolute proof and outside confirmation to even approach that group - they are the "golden children" of our organization.

You know I was having the same issue, but since then I have uninstalled clean the ITMU from the Primary site and distribution point and have reinstalled the ITMU revision 3. After installing the ITMU revsion 3 the security updates where actually getting installed on my clients plus the scanwrapper.exe was actually running on the clients aswell with successful status returns.

    Everett,

We are using TREND MICRO Officescan; for our servers TREND MICRO SERVER PROTECT.  According to our security admin, it's scanning from the trend micro everyday for updates and automatically applies the update whenever there is one.

Re: ITMU Error 11456 - help

    Possible cause:
Typically, this error results when the user account running the synchronization component does not have access to the Internet.

    Solution:
Consider changing the proxy configuration to allow anonymous connections or specific IP addresses, or consult the product documentation on the use of the SMSPatchDownloader.ini file to configure specific proxy settings on the client computer that runs the catalog download.

I looked for it all day yesterday. I also got an email that said it would be released in early May. So, I guess it could be any day or the next few weeks.
