Anyone working with Vista Beta 2?

Beta 2 has been out for about a month and I was wondering what kind if issues people were having. I know a lot of problems were worked out with the new version, but there still has to be some things that don't work right. I was thinking about doing an upgrade to my daily laptop, but can't afford major issues as I use it every day for business and personal use.

    Any info is appreciated!

Re: Anyone working with Vista Beta 2?

    Brian,

I installed Beta 2 on my laptop as soon as it came out. This current version seems quite stable and fast. I have had the odd issue when copying a large amount of files to a network share and Windows Explorer crashes. Vista does seem to be able to recover from the crashes fairly well.

I would all so recommend having a minimum of 1GB of RAM and probably 2GB would be better if you are running applications.

You may want to consider dual booting Vista with your current O/S on your laptop as a transitional option in case Vista does cause you some grief.

Thanks for the heads up! I do have 2 GB of ram and a P4 processor so I should be ok. I am kind of concerned with the RAM since I do a lot of virtual PC images. I may have to consider a laptop that can handle 4 GB of RAM. Hmmmm... I know a few people who are running only Vista without a dual boot. I think I may copy all my data to the external HD and have it there in case of a meltdown. I doubt you did an upgrade since you talked about dual boot. Is that the way you did it or was this a fresh install to a new partition?

I did a fresh install to a new partition. I know in previous builds of Vista the Upgrade option has been disabled. I can't recall if that was still the case for Beta 2. 4GB of RAM now we are talking!! I'm sure those Dell 1850 1RU servers will fit in a laptop bag Big Smile [:D]

Another guy here d/l'd it, and tried to burn it off the iso and it didn't work.  Anyone had any issues with anything like that?

I currently have 2 gig of ram...hmmm.....it'll hold 4...may be the 'excuse' I was needing to get that other 2 gig... Big Smile [:D]  Big Smile [:D]

I'm about to find out. I have a P4 3.4 Ghz processor, 2 GB RAM, but a 4200 RPM hard drive. I think that may kill me, but going to try it when I get the CD in the next few days. Will post back and let ya know.
