Step by Step Instructions to do OSD in SCCM

Well , i have searched a lot on internet and was not able to found any easy step by step guide to OSD in SCCM , even microsoft forum is not much clear for a beginner user.

Help me to do OSD at my enviorment and also help others by making a very simple guide for beginners in SCCM.

I have a SCCM working with Software Distrubtion at my enviorment . Now for OSD in SCCM i have installed PXE site role at the SCCM server. The DHCP and WINS are on another Box.

After that i have gone to OSD tab in SCCM and found 2 boot images in the tab x86 and x64 , are these PE boot images ? if so what will use of them , and where i have to put images and how to make it boot from PXE.

Are there any other requirements for which i have to check to make it work

Thanks for elaborating the questions.. boot images yes this are PE boot images and will help you to boot the computer when you are deploying OS through SCCM.

You need to create the task sequence, which contains information of boot images,OS images, application after installing the OS and advet the task sequence to group of PC's

I believe this post will certainly help you http://blogcastrepository.com/forums/t/35584.aspx

Please post the questions if you stuck up some where...

Re: Step by Step Instructions to do OSD in SCCM

Here we go , how i am doing OSD is like firstly i have installed the PXE service role , after that i have distributed the x86 PE boot image to both DP's ( Server one and the SMSPXEIMAGES one) but in the package status its showing "installed" for the site and for the SMSPXEIMAGES its showing "install retrying" . I have checked the account name and password which have full rights . Also there is no share with the name SMSPXEIMAGES$ . Why its not creating that share for PXE boot images ?.

    The CAS.log have a single line ----

    GetLogonUserSid failed at GetTokenSids 0x800704dd

    The execmgr.exe shows ----

    The user has logged off.

    A user has logged on.

The logged on user is domain\user

    The user has logged off.

Execution Manager timer has been fired.

    What to do now ?

Re: Step by Step Instructions to do OSD in SCCM

Hello, Following are the steps, you have done upto 3rd point(sound it from your post but still take note of 3rd point).

     1) Install WDS on your server.

    2) Install PXE service role on your server.

    3) Configure WDS for DHCP if your DHCP and WDS is on the same server.

    4) Add drivers to boot images.

    5) Create a Operating system image through WIM image.

    6) Create task sequence.

    7) Create the collection.

    8) Create advertisement for task sequence.

    9) Add computer to the advertise collections.

    Thanks and Regards
