Welcome to the Windows Server Update Services 3.0 Level 5 IT Guide.

In this guide, I'll take you through WSUS 3.0 from start to finish. From site design concepts, to server installation, client deployment and administration, to client and server troubleshooting and various ways to keep your WSUS environment working smoothly and reliably.

WSUS is one of the most often-overlooked products from Microsoft. Many IT staff think that they can get everything they need from Windows Update or Microsoft Update. Probably because it's free, which is one of the nicest things about WSUS.

But you will find that WSUS 3.0 not only gives you much more control but far greater flexibility than Microsoft Update alone, even with Automatic Updates in use. You can put WSUS to work in Active Directory domain environments as well as workgroup environments and even mix the two while still having a single point of managing updates for all of your Windows clients.
